Five Unique Ways to Practice Self Care

So many of us think that self-care is locking the bathroom door and putting on a face mask for a few minutes while we scroll through our Social Media feeds and take #selfies. While this practice is certainly diverting, indulgent, and fun, there are many other alternatives to practicing self-care that might actually provide more fulfillment and connection to one’s specific needs. After all, self-care can mean any activity that helps you take better care of yourself, as long as that’s the intention. Here are a few unexpected and unique ways to practice self-care.

One: Drink Enough Water

The effects of not drinking enough water can be impactful. Not only can dehydration lead to health issues like constipation and kidney stones, but it can also impact your mood, focus, and mental clarity. Try swapping that soda for a nice, tall, drink of water. Your body and your mind will love you for it. 

Two: Get Your Finances in Order

Money is one of the biggest stressors. Instead of letting your money control you, switch things up and start controlling your money. Plan a budget, stick to it, and release the stress that comes with an empty bank account. 

This sounds like a big, boring chore, but here are a few ideas to help you get started simply:

  • Check your bank account for recurring fees and cancel subscriptions you no longer use or need.
  • Add $5 to your investment account. You’d be surprised how far and fast this can add up. 
  • Look for spending trends. If you’re spending a ton of money on a daily latte habit, maybe cut back a little and save that money for something else.

Three: Take a Sound Bath

Baths are fantastic ways to practice self-care, but a sound bath is a little different. In fact, it’s a lot different. A sound bath is a full-body, immersive listening experience that uses sound to nurture you through a therapeutic and restorative journey. Four: Tidy Things Up

Even though it’s easy to ignore, clutter can make an impact on your mood. If you want to declutter a space or tidy something up, grab your phone, set your timer, and give yourself a certain amount of time to clean up. It can be as simple as folding laundry for twenty minutes or organizing your pantry for an hour. 

Five: Try Red Light Therapy

If you haven’t tried it (or even if you have) red light therapy is a great way to invest in yourself to practice well-deserved self-care. Red light therapy uses a low-frequency red light to address all kinds of things. If you’re interested in boosting anti-aging benefits, it’s a great way to reduce signs of wrinkles, fine lines, and blemishes. If you’re considering weight loss, it helps improve the look of cellulite and body fat. Red light therapy is also great at relieving discomfort caused by inflammation, so if you love working out, it’s a great way to boost your recovery.
