Tips to Show Yourself Some Love

People are constantly talking about self-care these days. They want you to take a fancy bath with a nice bath bomb, do a face mask, go for a walk, etc. All of these things are fantastic, but when it really comes down to it, self-love is the key to making sure self-care actually makes a difference. Wait?! Are we saying that self-care and self-love are two different things? Yes, we are. 

Self-love is actively showing yourself appreciation and putting your whole self in a positive light when you think of yourself. When you love yourself, you treat yourself in positive ways. Self-love is important because it helps us develop and participate in healthy behaviors, like being compassionate towards ourselves and others, developing skills to celebrate when we win, and forgiving ourselves when we don’t. Self-love empowers us to continually strive to treat ourselves well, so that we can treat everyone and everything around us well, too!

At Avanti Body, we fully believe that self-love is one of the most important things. With this in mind, here are four tips to help yourself show yourself some love!

One: Write it Down

Sometimes the day-to-day routines we get into make us forget to engage in our own mental well-being. We’re so busy focusing on work, kids, friends, etc. that we forget to show ourselves a little attention. One way to show yourself some love is to find some quiet time to reconnect. Find 20 minutes, grab a pen and some paper, and go somewhere quiet. Write down a list of at least ten things you like about yourself. Maybe it’s your smile, maybe it’s a talent you have, maybe it’s characteristic, maybe it’s all of the above. Once your list is written, keep it somewhere you can access it easily. When you feel like you need a little pick-me-up or could use some positive affirmation, get out your list and remind yourself how amazing you are. 

Two: Set Some Boundaries

When it comes to saying “no,” most of us have a hard time. We don’t want to be seen as being uncooperative or difficult. We want to be seen as someone who is a team player or happy to help. But sometimes, saying yes is detrimental. Saying no can actually be very good for you. Not only are you saying that you’re putting your growth, health, and mental well-being first, but you’re also setting boundaries that allow you to protect yourself from stress and unnecessary anxiety. 

The next time someone asks for a favor you don’t have time for, try to politely turn them down. Instead of going out and spending tons of money you don’t want to spend, tell your friends no. Set healthy boundaries and learn to say no. 

Three: Invest in Yourself

One of the best things you can do to show yourself some love is to invest in your health and wellness. When you feel great in your own skin, it shows. Whether you’re into taking a daily walk, making sure you drink enough water every day, or getting enough sleep, investing in how you feel will always pay off in the long run.

Try Something New

Last, but certainly not least on our list of tips to show yourself some love is trying something new. All of us get in ruts where we do the same thing every day and night. We get up at the same time, we work, we take care of the family, and we go to bed at the same time. Wash, rinse, repeat, right?! 

While routines are great, especially where sleep is concerned, it’s also good for us to challenge our minds and bodies to try new things. Instead of staying home and binging some TV, try going out and doing something different. Take a cooking class, try a sip and paint night, or sign up for a run you’ve wanted to try. Trying something new can even be as simple as taking a different way into the office in the morning. Just do something to shake things up a little. You’ll be surprised by how much having something new to look forward to has a positive impact on you.
